MISSION STATEMENT OF THE
SOMERSET POLICE DEPARTMENT
We, the members of the Somerset
Police Department, believe in the dignity and worth of all people. We are
committed to providing high quality community oriented police services with
sensitivity, protecting constitutional rights, problem solving, teamwork,
continuous improvement, openness, planning for the future, and providing
leadership to the police profession. We are proud of our work force which
permits us to grow, and which respects each of us as individuals, and we
strive for a healthy workplace.
At the present time the
Somerset Police Department is involved in many community oriented policing
efforts. Some examples are the recent Student Police Academy (of which we
graduated our first class of 20 area students in June 2004), Police
Substation. We also do training programs for our local businesses which
deal with bad checks, credit card fraud, counterfeit monies, armed robberies
and business security checks, which has been very successful. The Somerset
Police Department is involved with the youth of our community dealing with
the D.A.R.E. program in three school systems, which are the Pulaski County
Schools, Somerset Independent Schools and Science Hill Independent Schools.
We have 2 school resource officers serving the Pulaski County Schools
located within the city limits. We also conduct bicycle rodeos, child
identification programs held at businesses, and give talks to the various
church groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. Last but not least, we must not
forget our senior citizens who are very active in our community. We are very
active in Triad which deals with crime and the elderly. Our Triad chapter
which is ran by volunteers is 100 members strong. We have other groups such
as the Widow-to-Widow support group, and visit the Somerset Senior Citizens
center regularly, where they can talk about anything that is on their mind.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact us at 606-678-5176, or by writing to Somerset Police Department, 400 East Mt. Vernon Street, P.O. Box 1017, Somerset, Kentucky 42502-1017, or by e-mail at Somerset Police Department.
